The Wabe → Stories and Other Bits of Crap → The “Truth is Stranger…” File → Disney, “Faggot” Dan Savage to Join Forces
Never mind the fact that “Click here if you love…” is a dangerous elliptical phrase to put on a banner; what disturbs me the most is that the ad agency never even tried to match the content of the page (“Savage Love,” a sexually-explicit advice column) with the target audience for the ad (Disney, a family-oriented entertainment megacorp).
Rotating banner ads are a ticking time-bomb for accidental humor. It’s a pity that Dan Savage chose a relatively tame title for this week’s column, though. Think of the possibilities: “Disney’s Blast On-line: Click here if you love… Anal Maniacs!”
