The Smogmobile is either on its last mile or (hopefully) about to be reborn with a new engine.

Tuesday night/Wednesday morning engine trouble occurred. Thought it was the timing belt, because I was about to replace it at 120,000 miles, but the mechanic said it’s a lot worse than that.

Estimated cost to fix: $2500 plus.

I’m going to get a second opinion, but that means I have to tow it from Tujunga to Los Al (circa 45 miles). Will check into AAA extended towing service.

The mechanic is being nice about letting me leave car there, but I don’t know how long before he’ll want to charge me storage. I want to tow it Friday or Saturday.
