The Wabe Bitter Nerd™ Reviews Planet Earth (and Other Tourist Traps)

Thomas Deeny is begging people to promote the webcomic collection over at The Snake Farm, and I’m feeling guilty about not providing content for the last few weeks (a mea culpa about screwing up PHP notwithstanding), so here’s a short review of his comic. I’ve been meaning to do a set of micro-reviews of the oddball webcomics I frequent, mostly just to annoy Mia.

Bitter Nerd™ µReview: Planet Earth (and Other Tourist Traps)

Location

Summary

Four friends go on frequent roadtrips and battle axe murderers, invading space fleets, ninjas, financially-strapped bikini babes, supervillains, and general geekery. Oh, and one of them is an alien.

It’s a college strip, but like most strips of that genre very little time if any is spent in classes.

A Sluggy Freelance clone except without the self-indulgent epic plots that have marred Sluggy recently (a good thing).

Genres

College, Gaming, Humor, Science fiction, Superhero.

Update Frequency

Monday-Wednesday-Friday.

Archive

Greater than 600 strips.

Amusing Features

Not explaining (or even acknowledging) the “Alien!” arrow until much later in the comic.

Short story arcs; minimal heavy exposition or all-action, zero-dialogue strips.

Annoying Features

Deeny can’t draw hands well, so after a while he stopped trying to draw them at all. He’s quite willing to admit that, but it’s still bothersome.

The occasional in-strip appearance by the artist as a deus ex machina when writer’s block hits. So clichéd.

Monica, Janet, Moriarty, and Dex go to the Spork Festival:
