It's slightly cool, but still skin-comfortable; it's an uneven pentagon in shape, and the wooden floor has been painted a rich blue-green. There's a single bed, a white book case with built-in fold-down desk that has painted decals of birds and flowers in shades of blue and green, filled with the books I remember from childhood. There are windows on two of the five walls, one looking out over the front yard and one looking out over the back/side, out toward an alfalfa field and a distant barn. There's a comfortable chair with a small table near it, and lamps on the bookcase and the table and standing near the door to the room. There's an oval braided rug in earth tones on the floor, and pillows scattered near it. The sheets are pale blue, and the bedspread is ribbed cotton. The walls are wallpapered in a cream color with a scattering of tiny blue flowers. A mobile hangs from the ceiling with impressionistic sailing ships and space ships moving slightly in the breeze from the windows. The air smells of summer mornings.

It's more of a small wood, really -- a mix of deciduous trees, oaks and maples and elms, open enough that brush has grown up between them, but it's not too thick to walk through even if there were no path. It's cool under the trees, dappled in sunlight, and I can hear birds and small animals all around me.

It's not really a path, but I can step across the brook easily. Tucked up among the tree roots nearby, someone has left an old mug, somehow unbroken since it's been left. It's tipped over on one side, the handle and part of the body still visible while the rest of it has sunk into the humus. It was a creamy yellow once, and I think it would be again if I rinsed it off in the stream.
