The room has a slight chill but there is early morning sunlight coming through the large open sliding doors. It is a long room with a white tiled floor and low wooden ceiling. The furnishings are all gathered at the far end of the room around a cheap television set sat atop a wooden crate. There is a metal bunk bed which has had the legs levered off and a delapidated sofa constructed from thin foam matresses and large cardboard tubes.
The trees are enormous and tower over me to form a canopy of brightly coloured leaves high over my head. Bright sunlight heats the damp ground causing a slight steam to rise from the forest floor. It is warm and humid and the forest is alive with the noise of a thousand unseen birds and insects.
The path cuts its way down through the forest, descending out of view and, although clearly marked, is not easily navigated. Tree roots jutting out from banks of mud form a slippery, disfigured staircase. This path is apparentlty well trodden, as your feet disappear deep into the soft mud under foot and wragged red plastic strips tied around trees mark the way.
The water is a clear, shimmering, shallow stream which carves its way through the forest. The water is cool and refreshing and possesses an intense clarity like none I've seen before.
It is a large green plastic beaker... larger than a pint glass and is slightly stained from previous usage.
The key is large and extremely rusty and has a frayed piece of rope attached to a ring at one end. It looks as if it unlocks a large heavy door.
