The room is stark and bare. There is a dingy, green carpet. The only furniture is the bed and a wooden chair beside it. There are two windows, with metal blinds. The bed has an oak finished headboard and footboard. There is a closet, with bi-fold doors. The closet is empty except for some wire hangers that are hanging on the clothes rack. The door to the room is open, which leads into a hallway. Sunlight is streaming into the room from the windows. There is a light on the ceiling, but it is off.
The trees are very tall and large, and appear to be redwoods. The lowest limbs on the trees are high overhead, providing a canopy of shade. Some streaks of sunlight break through here and there. Overall, the forest is mostly bright but shady. The floor of the forest is covered with ferns. It is somewhat thick, and visibility is limited to fifty meters or so in any one direction. It is very peaceful and quiet. The only sound is an occasional bird. The temperature is quite comfortable, with a light, cool breeze from time to time.
The path is moderately wide, with no obstructions. It is clearly marked and free of leaves, sticks and any kind of debris. It appears to be well-traveled and the surface is softly-packed dirt. It meanders somewhat lazily along, with easy curves. It leads up a small hill into the forest in the distance.
The path ends at a bubbling stream. To the right, there is a section of deep, still water. To the left, there is another. Directly in front, the water bubbles over a shallow section of small, smooth rocks. The path fords this stream here over the rocks. The water is clear and cool, as if it ran from nearby mountains.
The cup is plain and ceramic. It has been glazed and fired in a kiln, and painted a yellow-orange color. The inside has been left unpainted, and is off-white. It is remarkably clean for being left in the outdoors. It is a medium sized cup, and probably holds about 12 ounces of water. It is standing upright on a flat, smooth rock.
The key is an old skeleton key, that appears to have been left on the ground recently. It is made of polished brass, and has been tarnished slightly in small spots by the morning dew. It is small and fits easily in my hand. I think it unlocks an old trunk.
