Analysis for Nicola, 17 January 2004

This is how you described the room:

the room is warm and there are a lot of chairs in it, one is covered in a green fabric, another is covered in brown and is very old and dusty. There is a piano on one side of the room which is covered in a beige cloth. The wallpaper has a faded flower pattern. There is a lamp on top of the piano, which is made of yellow glass, There is a chandalier hanging up too.

The initial room is the subject’s childhood. What interests us here is the general atmosphere of the room, in addition to the level of furnishings described by the subject. This comfortable room suggests a childhood that was pleasant. The depth of description tells us that the subject has strong memories of childhood.

You wanted to leave the room.

The subject wanted to become an adult.

This is how you described the forest:

The forest is a mixture of a lot of vibrant green, the trees are all different but the trees are very tall, The forest is shadowy with sunlight coming through in some places.

The forest is growing up, and the trees are those adults with whom the subject interacted at that time. Average lighting tells us that the subject received enough attention from the adults to be guided but not oppressed. Tall trees imply that the adults had a strong influence on the subject.

This is how you described the path:

The path is very clearly marked, it is quite narrow and winding

Adolescence is represented by the path through the forest. That the path is free of obstructions indicates that the subject had no problems during adolescence. The visibility of the path tells us that the subject had a good idea of what to expect from adolescence. A narrow path suggests that the subject had limited options for emotional growth at this time.

This is how you described the water:

it is a small lake which is very still apart froma small waterfall in the distance. The water is bright blue and turquoise in some areas, it is beautiful.

The water is the subject’s sexuality. What interests us here is the clarity of the water (representing attitude) and its movement (representing libido). Clear water tells us that the subject has no issues regarding sex. Slow, gently moving water suggests a passive, restrained, calm sex drive.

When you came to the water, you went around it.

The subject is not interested in new sexual experiences.

This is how you described the cup:

The flask is silver with qhite an ornate pattern on it. Very polished and shiny. It has a silver handle on it which also has patterns.

The vessel, or specifically the practicality of the vessel, is how the subject approaches marriage or bonding. A decorative container indicates that the subject views marriage as a romantic adventure.

You took the cup but left it empty.

The subject is interested in marriage, but sex won’t be a significant part of that relationship.

This is how you described the key:

The key is large and gold, it opens up a secret door in one of the trees in the forest, it would take you to a different world where there is peace love and harmony

The key is the ideal career for the subject. What interests us here is how the key appears (representing how others view the career) and what it may open (representing the subject’s goals for the career). Decorative keys suggest that the subject wants an attention-grabbing, one-of-a-kind career. Magical or fantastic keys suggest that the subject has unreasonably high expectations of what will result from a career.

You avoided the bear.

In a crisis, the subject prefers the indirect, non-confrontational approach.

When you came to the wall, you jumped over it.

The wall represents death: by jumping over it, the subject not only acknowledges death but has come to accept its finality.
